Licensure Requirements for Septic System Contractors
The Department of Health in Georgia requires that any business or individual for hire must be certified to
install, maintain, pump, repair or design septic systems. The appropriate training, application fee, and testing
must be completed before the department will issue certification. The Department also requires that installers
re-test every two years and participate in continuing education and periodic review. The Department of Health
maintains a list of certified residential contractors by county.
Installing a New Septic System
All new septic tank installations require an application be submitted to the
County Health Board in the appropriate county. The
application must contain plans, design, and the certified installer's contact information. After the application
is approved, the individual may continue with the installation. Before an installation is complete, it must pass
a County Health Board's inspection.
